In an incident that occurred at 18:05 EET on Tuesday, April 16, the M/V Varnebank, a Dutch freighter, collided with the stern of the M/T Neste, an oil tanker owned by Neste Oil, while navigating the icy waters south of Kemi in the Bay of Bothnia. According to a press release from the tanker’s owner, both vessels were adhering to a route specified by the icebreaker Odin when the M/T Neste became immobilized in the ice. Following this predicament, the M/V Varnebank accidentally struck the tanker. Fortunately, the collision was deemed minor, resulting in no injuries or environmental damage.
