Attack on Montet Tide: Three Crew Members Taken Hostage by Pirates
In a frightening incident on October 25, 2021, the 'Montet Tide', which was traveling from Punta Europa to Malongo, became a target for pirates at approximately 9:27 p.m. The attack occurred around 50 nautical miles southwest of Biolo Island, specifically at position 02 35 29 N, 007 59 13 E, placing it around 62 nautical miles southwest of Luba, Equatorial Guinea. During the bold assault, an undisclosed group of pirates boarded the vessel and took three of its 14 crew members hostage. Fortunately, the remaining 11 crew members managed to secure themselves in the citadel on board, ensuring their safety. At the time of the ambush, the 'Montet Tide' was navigating at a speed of seven knots with an estimated freeboard of three meters. The attackers eventually abandoned the vessel at approximately 4 a.m. on October 26.
