New Leadership Set to Board Frontier Falcon Amid Investigation
In a recent update from the owners and charterers of the 'Frontier Falcon,' it has been confirmed that the vessel successfully finalized its cargo operations at the port of Icdas on August 25, 2023, at 09:30 a.m. Following this, the ship docked at the Marmara West Anchorage. The current Master, Chief Officer, and Chief Engineer were taken ashore to assist local authorities with their investigation into a 25-kilogram package of drugs discovered attached to the vessel's hull. All crew members have asserted their innocence, denying any connection to the illicit cargo. Given the ongoing inquiries, the owners anticipate that the crew members may remain in Icdas for an extended period. To mitigate any potential delays, replacement personnel are on their way, expected to join the ship on August 27, 2023. The current crew will be repatriated once the investigation concludes. Importantly, the vessel was not detained, as the authorities determined it had no involvement in illegal activities and will be cleared to sail upon the arrival of the new Captain and Chief Engineer. The owners and charterers have pledged full cooperation with local investigations to clarify accountability for the unlawful shipment.
Cocaine Seized from 'Frontier Falcon' After Inspection in Turkey
On August 22, 2020, a significant drug finding occurred aboard the freighter 'Frontier Falcon' after it arrived at Icdas, Turkey, from Santa Marta, Colombia, just three days prior. A collaborative inspection by the police's anti-narcotics division and the Coast Guard revealed a suspicious box adhered to the ship's hull in the aft section. Upon opening the box, authorities discovered a stash of cocaine weighing a total of 25 kilograms. The underwater search by divers was set to continue as part of a thorough investigation. Meanwhile, seven crew members were found near the area of the discovery, allegedly in the process of retrieving the narcotics. As of now, their involvement in the drug operation remains unconfirmed.
