Significant Bunker Spill Contained in Temasek Fairway Following Vessel Collision

Sep 11, 2012 09:23

On September 9 at 2 p.m., the waters between Jurong Island and the Tuas View Extension Reclamation Area were the scene of a serious maritime incident involving the 'DL Salvia' and 'Sunny Horizon'. The collision resulted in a breach in a bunker tank of the 'DL Salvia', releasing approximately 60 tons of oil. Fortunately, the spill has been largely contained within the Temasek Fairway, situated around 700 meters east of Sultan Shoal. In response, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) swiftly deployed its patrol craft to manage the situation, working alongside activated oil spill response companies. A total of seven patrol and anti-pollution vessels were sent out to assist in containment efforts. Ongoing operations continued through the night on September 10, with the MPA diligently coordinating clean-up actions in collaboration with other government agencies and the involved ship owners. Both vessels involved in the accident were securely anchored at West Jurong. The MPA has alerted nearby ships to navigate with caution in the area while it conducts an investigation into the causes of the collision.
