Houthi Claims of Attack on MSC Aby Debunked as False

Sep 05, 2025 12:14

In a recent statement, Houthi insurgents alleged that they successfully targeted the 'MSC Aby,' stating the vessel was struck by 'two drones and a winged missile.' However, the container ship successfully docked at its destination, Jeddah, on September 2, 2025, at 7:42 a.m. after departing from Port Said. The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), a reliable source for security alerts, reported no incidents correlating with the Houthi's claims. Notably, the Houthi report failed to provide a specific date for the purported attack, raising further doubts about its veracity. Prior to this assertion, 'MSC Aby's' transit route through the Suez Canal remained solely north of the northernmost documented Houthi strike. While the vessel has not made any recent port calls in Israel, it did visit Ashdod in 2023. The Mica Center, affiliated with the French Navy, has confirmed the information shared by the Houthis is misleading. Moreover, MSC, the Swiss shipowner of 'MSC Aby,' has not reported any such incident, and the ship remained on its intended course throughout its journey.

Historic Arrival: Aotea Maersk, Largest Container Ship, Docks at Tauranga

Oct 04, 2016 11:27

In a landmark event for New Zealand's maritime industry, the Aotea Maersk, the largest container ship to ever visit a New Zealand port, successfully docked at Tauranga on October 4, 2016. The impressive vessel, weighing nearly 92,000 tonnes and measuring close to 350 meters in length, is equipped to transport an astounding 9,640 twenty-foot containers. Scheduled to embark for North Asia in the early hours of tomorrow morning, the Aotea Maersk's maiden call marks a significant development in shipping services. Maersk New Zealand's head, Gerard Morrison, emphasized the importance of this event, indicating, "We are thrilled to introduce this ship, along with 10 of her sister vessels, on a weekly basis from here on out." Tuesdays will see the Aotea Maersk making her journey from Tauranga to bustling markets in Taiwan, China, Korea, and Japan. This operation has been made feasible thanks to recent dredging efforts that deepened the Tauranga harbour, completed earlier this year.
