MSC Ajaccio Breaks Free in Paranaguá Amidst Gale-Force Winds

Nov 05, 2018 10:11

On November 4, 2018, at approximately 3:20 PM, the container vessel MSC Ajaccio experienced a dramatic situation when it broke away from its moorings in the harbor of Paranaguá due to wind gusts reaching speeds of up to 80 km/h. The powerful winds caused the ship to drift uncontrollably within the port. Fortunately, a team of tugs promptly responded, engaging in a two-hour effort to regain control of the ship and successfully secure it to a berth amidst the challenging conditions. After regaining stability, the MSC Ajaccio departed the port at 5:15 PM, en route to Montevideo, with an estimated arrival time set for November 6. MSC Ajaccio Disabled at Sea: Rescue Mission Off Spanish Coast

Aug 28, 2015 09:34

The container ship MSC Ajaccio encountered a critical issue with its oil pump, leaving it disabled approximately 18 nautical miles from Cape Touriñán, Spain. The incident occurred after the vessel departed Las Palmas on August 24, 2015, with its ultimate destination set for Rotterdam. Onboard were 28 crew members who attempted to rectify the situation but were ultimately unsuccessful. This prompted a call for assistance early on August 27 at 4:15 AM. The Spanish rescue vessel Sebastian De Ocampo (IMO: 9329021) was dispatched from Muros to aid the stricken ship. While two helicopters were placed on alert, their deployment was deemed unnecessary. After Salvamento Maritimo was engaged to provide aid in the afternoon, the tug Don Inda (IMO: 9338010) managed to successfully connect with the MSC Ajaccio at 1:20 PM despite challenging sea conditions and strong winds, just four miles from Touriñán. The towing operation commenced, with the tug guiding the container ship towards A Coruña. The following day, August 28, two additional tugs, Ibaizabal Nueve (IMO: 9546667) and Sertosa Veintiocho (IMO: 9133953), joined the rescue convoy to ensure the safe arrival of the boxship in port. The MSC Ajaccio was successfully docked at the Punta Langostera Jetty around 1 PM.
