The Msc-Alicante: Crew Feedback and Vessel Data

On November 29, 2021, at approximately 3 p.m., the container ship MSC Alicante encountered difficulties during its berthing maneuvers while sailing from Piraeus to Ambarli. The vessel ran aground and subsequently drifted into the quay at the Marport container terminal in Ambarli, Turkey, creating a hazardous situation. In response, the Coastal Safety Agency deployed tugs Kurtarma 8 and Kurtarma 11 to assist in refloating the ship. Additionally, divers from KEGM were dispatched to the scene to assess the situation. As of 4 p.m., efforts to stabilize the vessel were ongoing, with fast rescue boats and technical teams set up to provide crucial support for both the MSC Alicante and the safety of the port operations at Ambarli. Strong south-westerly winds made the environment particularly treacherous, leading to a temporary closure of the port to all incoming ships. Fortunately, there were no reports of leaks or environmental pollution stemming from the incident. The Harbour Master has initiated an investigation to determine the causes behind the grounding and the potential damages incurred. Comprehensive inspections are scheduled to be conducted by Class and State Surveyors, alongside technical experts who will evaluate the damage to both the vessel and the quay.
