Cargo insurers have initiated a legal battle in New York aimed at recouping salvage expenses following an arbitration ruling. The lawsuit targets three prominent container shipping operators, including MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company, AP Moller-Maersk, and Zim, concerning the salvage operation for the 'MSC Achimidis VIII'. This vessel encountered engine issues off the coast of Mexico in 2021 and required assistance from Five Ocean Salvage to be towed back to port. The insurers are alleging breaches of contract, negligence, and claims of unseaworthiness, asserting they are entitled to over $2 million in damages related to the engine failure.

Capital Product Partners has successfully negotiated new long-term time charters with MSC for two of its notable 8,266 TEU container ships, Agamemnon and Archimidis. The 2007-built vessel Agamemnon is set to begin its new charter in the third quarter of 2019, following the installation of a scrubber and the completion of its special survey. Meanwhile, the 2006-built Archimidis will transition into its new charter at the end of the fourth quarter of 2019, also contingent upon completing its scrubber installation and special survey, which will seamlessly follow its ongoing charter with MSC.
