Maersk Upgrades Fuel Efficiency with Innovative Bow Replacements

Feb 04, 2013 09:09

In a groundbreaking move towards enhanced fuel efficiency, Maersk is set to transform the designs of ten of its vessels by replacing their bulbous bows. This exciting initiative promises to cut fuel consumption by up to 5%, akin to a ship's cosmetic surgery. Over the next year, two classes of Maersk vessels will undergo this significant upgrade. The project kicked off recently with the successful modifications of Maas Buffalo and Maersk Baltimore at the Qingdao Shipyard in China back in November. After their transformation, these ships were chartered out under their new names—Seago Bremerhaven and Seago Antwerp, marking a new chapter in their operational lives. As Maersk leads the way in sustainable shipping innovations, these upgrades could pave the way for a greener maritime industry.

Apr 19, 2011 09:49

On April 17, 2011, the Coast Guard initiated a search operation for a possible missing boater near Jacksonville, Florida, following the discovery of a capsized vessel. The distressing find was made by the cargo ship "Beaumont," which reported the overturned 20-foot boat located approximately 27 miles off the Jacksonville coast around 2:30 p.m. In response to this alarming situation, a rescue team from Coast Guard Station Mayport, Florida, launched a 45-foot Response Boat Medium shortly after at 3:00 p.m. Additionally, an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter rescue crew from the Air Station Clearwater was deployed to assist in the urgent search efforts. Two Navy helicopters joined the operation, scouring the nearby waters for any signs of the missing individual. The Coast Guard has also issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast (UMIB) to notify other mariners of the potential missing person and has reached out to local marinas for accountability checks of their patrons.
