MSC Unifies Americas Shipping Services with Panama Canal Expansion
The Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) is set to revolutionize its shipping operations in the Americas by merging its Europe-North America and North America-west coast South America services into a single, efficient route. This new service, named SAWC-USA-NWC, will connect the U.S. East Coast to the West Coast of South America and facilitate cargo movement from Northern Europe to this region. The inaugural voyage will feature the impressive 8,800-TEU MSC Brunella, which will depart from Rotterdam on June 14, making its journey through the newly expanded Panama Canal, which will officially open its widened locks on June 26. MSC announced that this strategic reorganization is prompted by the recent expansion of the Panama Canal, allowing the company to sustain its carrying capacity while significantly lowering its environmental footprint. Additionally, this enhanced service will provide improved transit times. The new routing will include key ports such as Port Everglades, New York, and Charleston, all served via MSC's transshipment feeder hub in Freeport, Bahamas. Another transshipment hub in Callao will facilitate services to Arica, Puerto Angamos, and San Antonio. The complete rotation for this service includes: Coronel, Valparaiso, Callao, Balboa, Freeport, Philadelphia, Rotterdam, Antwerp, Tilbury, Hamburg, and Bremerhaven on the northbound leg, then returning from Rotterdam, Tilbury, Hamburg, Bremerhaven, Antwerp, Sines, Freeport, Cartagena, Cristobal, Balboa, Bunenaventura, Callao, and back to Coronel.
