India Welcomes Its Largest Container Ship: MSC Cristina Docks at JNPT
In a historic milestone for India's maritime industry, the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) witnessed the arrival of MSC Cristina, the largest container ship ever to grace Indian waters, on Friday. Operated by DP World at the Nhava Sheva (India) Gateway Terminals, the MSC Cristina measures an impressive 366 meters (around 1,201 feet) in length, with a staggering capacity of 13,102 twenty-foot-equivalent units (TEUs). Notably surpassing the previous record held by the 11,000-TEU MSC Francesca, which was serviced by NSIGT on March 18, this arrival highlights India's growing prominence in global shipping. Anil Singh, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of DP World Subcontinent, remarked on the significance of this event during a celebratory gathering at the port. He emphasized that NSIGT, the newest terminal to operate at JNPT, is uniquely equipped with cutting-edge facilities to accommodate vessels of this size, reinforcing DP World's leadership in the container terminal sector in India. The successful docking of such a mega-ship follows JNPT's recent completion of a dredging project, which has enhanced the channel depth to 14 meters (46 feet), ensuring that it can handle larger vessels in the future.
Navios Maritime Partners Welcomes MSC Cristina into its Fleet
Navios Maritime Partners L.P., a prominent global player in the ownership and operation of drybulk and container vessels, has officially taken delivery of the MSC CRISTINA.
