Engine Malfunction Strikes Hanse Courage in Kiel Canal

Sep 17, 2012 18:07

On September 16, 2023, the cargo vessel "Hanse Courage" encountered engine problems while navigating the Kiel Canal. After successfully passing through the Brunsbuettel locks at approximately 10:45 a.m., the ship was bound for Teesborg via Bremerhaven to Kaliningrad. Despite the mechanical malfunction, the vessel managed to reach Fischerhütte, where assistance was dispatched. The tugboat "Bugsier 15" arrived around 5 p.m. to tow the troubled ship towards Kiel. However, the engine issues resurfaced near Oldenbuettel, prompting the involvement of an additional tug, the "Bugsier 11." The "Hanse Courage" was subsequently towed to the communal harbor in Rendsburg, where it docked at 1:30 a.m. on September 17 for necessary repairs. Once the vessel was back in working condition, it departed at 5:15 p.m., receiving help from the tug "Wolf". The ship continued its journey towards Kiel-Holtenau, entering the lock at 7:45 p.m. before setting sail into the Baltic Sea.

Brunsbuettel Lock Incident Involves 'Hanse Courage'

Oct 29, 2011 18:25

In the early hours of October 29, 2011, at 2:45 AM, the cargo vessel 'Hanse Courage' encountered a critical incident at the New Northern Lock of the Kiel Canal in Brunsbuettel. The ship, which was traveling without cargo, had initially navigated into the old lock after departing from Bremerhaven en route to Kaliningrad. However, due to prior collisions involving the vessels 'Heinrich Ehler' and 'Nordgard' with the center tail of the lock, the 'Hanse Courage' was forced to re-enter the canal. This maneuver resulted in a significant allision with the North Gate of the lock, causing extensive structural damage. The vessel was ultimately cleared to continue its journey at approximately 5:30 AM.
