The MSC Gülsün has marked a significant milestone by completing its inaugural voyage from Asia to Europe, announced the MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company on Monday. According to AIS tracking data, this colossal containership has successfully docked in Bremerhaven, Germany after departing from northern China. Measuring approximately 400 meters in length and over 60 meters in width, the MSC Gülsün boasts an impressive capacity of 23,756 TEU. This remarkable capacity not only sets records but also enhances efficiency by reducing carbon dioxide emissions per container transported. Constructed by Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea, MSC Gülsün is the pioneer of a fleet of 10 ultra-large container vessels (ULCVs) that will join the MSC fleet. In total, SHI will deliver six ships from this new class, while Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) is tasked with building the remaining five vessels, all originating from South Korea.
