MSC Kim Container Ship Left Adrift in Gulf of St. Lawrence After Engine Failure

Mar 10, 2022 09:40

On March 7, 2022, the container vessel 'MSC Kim' encountered a significant setback due to an engine failure while navigating the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The incident occurred at approximately 12:45 a.m. EST while the ship was en route from Halifax to Montreal, positioned at 48° 17.25' N and 62° 31.947' W, roughly 66 nautical miles east of Percé, Quebec. By March 10, the 'MSC Kim' remained adrift about 50 nautical miles off Port au Port, prompting the vessel's owners to take action. A tug from Stephenville was contracted to assist, while the Canadian Coast Guard Ship (CCGS) 'Terry Fox' was deployed to the area to coordinate a harbour breakout and provide necessary support to the tug as it departed from Stephenville Harbour. In collaboration with the vessel's owners, the Coast Guard was working meticulously to develop a salvage plan to recover the 'MSC Kim'. After several days of efforts, the container ship successfully reached Sydney, Nova Scotia, where it docked at midnight on March 12, 2022. Massive Cocaine Bust on MSC Kim Shakes Antwerp Docks

Nov 25, 2015 18:27

On November 17, 2015, Belgian authorities made a significant drug discovery aboard the MSC Kim, uncovering nearly 500 kilograms of cocaine concealed within rolls of plastic film in the cargo containers. This shocking find occurred shortly after the vessel's arrival in Antwerp on November 16, following its journey from Ecuador. As the investigation unfolds, officials have not indicated any potential involvement from the ship's crew in this illicit operation. The MSC Kim's prolonged stay at the Antwerp docks has raised questions about the security measures in place for maritime cargo inspections.
