In the early hours of March 3, 2018, a maritime incident occurred when the roro ferry "Primula Seaways," sailing from Terneuzen, collided with the container vessel "MSC Madrid" off the coast of Flushing. The accident took place around 2:15 a.m. as both vessels were navigating in the same direction. The container ship impacted the starboard side of the ferry, resulting in significant damage. Despite the collision, the "Primula Seaways" managed to continue its voyage and arrived in Ghent by 3 p.m. that same day. Meanwhile, the "MSC Madrid," which had departed from Hamburg on March 1 and was en route to Antwerp, anchored at Wielingen North.
