The Msc-New-York: Crew Feedback and Vessel Data

On December 9, 2014, the MSC New York achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the largest vessel to navigate the Berendrecht Lock as it entered the port of Antwerp. Arriving from Zeebrugge at 5:00 a.m., this monumental container ship is set to remain in the Delwaide Dock until December 11, during which time 3,400 containers will be unloaded and an impressive 3,800 to 4,000 containers will be loaded for its onward journey to Rotterdam. The historic passage was meticulously orchestrated by the Joint Nautical Authority in collaboration with the MSC Shipping Company and the port team, ensuring the safe entry of this unprecedented vessel size through the Berendrecht lock. Although the MSC New York set a new record for the Berendrecht Lock, it is noteworthy that the title for the largest ship ever to dock in Antwerp still belongs to the Mary Maersk, which visited the port in October 2013 and boasts a capacity of around 18,000 TEU, surpassing the MSC New York by approximately 2,000 TEU.
