On February 6, 2023, the container ship MSC Poh Lin encountered engine difficulties while navigating through the port of Antwerp at approximately 4 a.m. Initially, the vessel was moving at a sluggish pace of dead slow, causing concern among the crew and observers. However, within half an hour, the ship managed to increase its speed to six knots. The ship is currently bound for Gebze, with an estimated time of arrival set for February 14.

MSC Poh Lin Released After Captain's Arrest in Italy

Jul 17, 2016 12:37

The Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has issued a statement following the recent arrest of the captain of its vessel, MSC Poh Lin, in Italy on allegations of cocaine trafficking potentially linked to organized crime. The MSC Poh Lin docked in Gioia Tauro after its journey from South America last week. In response to this serious situation, MSC emphasized its commitment to cooperating fully with local authorities, aligning with its stringent Code of Conduct. The company firmly opposes any form of illegal transportation activities. After a thorough investigation, the court has officially cleared the MSC Poh Lin of any wrongdoing, allowing the vessel to be released. Once all containers have undergone comprehensive inspections, they will be permitted to continue their journey from Gioia Tauro.

Crew of MSC Poh Lin Linked to Major Cocaine Trafficking Operation

Jul 15, 2016 09:39

In a significant drug bust, the Guardia di Finanza of Reggio Calabria discovered 83 kilograms of cocaine hidden within the cargo of the MSC Poh Lin. The illegal substance was concealed in an unsealed container among those loaded onto the vessel. On July 7, 2014, upon the ship's arrival at the APM North Pier Container Terminal in Gioia Tauro, a massive operation involving several hundred officers of Guardia di Finanza commenced, examining the 1,500 containers on board. Initially, no drugs were located; however, authorities were already aware of a new scheme devised by the Calabrian mafia, Ndrangheta, in collusion with South American drug cartels that implicated high-ranking ship personnel. Investigators identified that the ship's master had been recruited as part of the trafficking network. During their search, Guardia di Finanza operatives intercepted coded communications that pinpointed the exact container holding the drugs. This container had been shipped from Chile and transited through Balboa, Panama, en route to Valencia, Spain. As of July 15, the MSC Poh Lin remained docked in Gioia Tauro, under close scrutiny by Italian authorities.
