Disabled Container Ship 'MSC Talia F' Rescued Near Punta Melenara

Apr 25, 2025 12:34

On April 19, 2025, the 'MSC Talia F', a container ship carrying various cargo, including hazardous materials, experienced significant engine issues approximately eight nautical miles east-northeast of Punta Melenara (Lat. 28.2159 Lng. -15.1904). The vessel was en route from Valencia to Nouakchott when it became disabled and began drifting southward at a speed of about two knots, influenced by north-northeastern winds gusting between 25 and 30 knots and swells reaching approximately two meters. In response to the emergency, Salvamento Marítimo dispatched the salvage tug 'Heroinas de Sálvora' (IMO: 9960112), which arrived on scene at 9:50 p.m. local time. The tug successfully established a tow line with 'MSC Talia F' just before midnight, enabling a safe tow to the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The troubled vessel was berthed safely at approximately 4 a.m. UTC on April 20. Initial investigations suggested that the engine failure was likely due to a malfunction in the fuel pump. After undergoing necessary repairs, the 'MSC Talia F' departed the port once again at 4:30 a.m. on April 21, ultimately reaching its destination port on April 24.
