Collision Incident Involving MSC Tomoko and J.Friend Near Shantou, China
On May 9, 2010, the container ship MSC Tomoko (IMO 9309461) was involved in a collision with the bulk carrier J.Friend approximately 15 nautical miles off the coast of Shantou, China. Initial assessments indicate that the MSC Tomoko sustained minimal damage, primarily limited to some superficial scratches. In contrast, the J.Friend suffered significant damage to its bow, resulting in holes that led to water ingress. Salvage operations for the bulker were promptly initiated. Following the incident, the MSC Tomoko continued its journey and successfully docked at the Mawan Terminal in Shenzhen on May 12, 2010.
