In a significant transaction on December 5, three vessels—'Hanjin Europe', 'Hanjin Harmony', and 'Hanjin Africa'—were sold for a staggering $392 million to a mysterious buyer in Rotterdam. This buyer was represented legally by attorney Carel van Lynden during the deal. The ships, previously managed by Resolute Leasing based on the Isle of Man, were chartered to Hanjin prior to the sale. The sale was initiated by HSH Nordbank, owed a considerable sum of $1.8 billion by the owner. Notably, the vessels had been anchored off the coast of Scheveningen in recent weeks prior to this sale, marking an important moment in maritime commerce.

The vessel formerly known as 'Hanjin Europe' will be rebranded as 'Maersk Emerald' following its arrival in Rotterdam on December 6, 2016. This name change marks a significant transition for the ship as it continues its service under the Maersk line.

The containership 'Hanjin Europe' is currently anchored off the coast of Heligoland after departing from Eurogate. The vessel has been idling for 17 days while carrying supplies, positioned close to the 'Hanjin Harmony', another boxship. Notably, the 'Hanjin Harmony' skipped its scheduled stops at the major ports of Antwerp and Rotterdam and faced restrictions that prevented its entry into Hamburg. This unusual maritime situation highlights challenges faced by shipping vessels in congested European waters.
