RUSTON, Wash. -- Frustration is mounting among residents along the picturesque Ruston waterfront as the cargo ship Santa Roberta occupies space right before their homes, creating relentless noise from its running engines around the clock. One resident expressed her distress, sharing that the disruptive sounds have made it impossible for her to get a good night's sleep. The Santa Roberta is currently anchored in Commencement Bay, not far from Ruston Point, as it awaits its turn to dock at the Port of Tacoma. Although the ship remains idle, the engines must continue operating to power the refrigerated containers on board, contributing to the endless clamor. The Santa Roberta is one of four container ships caught in a backlog, unable to unload due to a slowdown in operations caused by union negotiations involving Longshoremen. With dock workers currently operating without a contract for over seven months, tensions have risen, leading to accusations directed at shipping companies amidst ongoing discussions for better terms.
