Murueta Vessel Involved in Quay Allision at Barranquilla Port
In a concerning maritime incident on January 16, 2019, the cargo ship 'Murueta' was involved in an allision with a quay at the Palermo Sociedad Portuaria Multi-Purpose Terminal in Barranquilla, located in Colombia's Magdalena Department. At approximately 11:40 a.m., the vessel struck the quay with its portside bow, despite the assistance of tugs. The impact resulted in the ship's anchor breaking in two and damaging a bollard, causing significant harm to both the ship's port side foreship and the port infrastructure. The 'Murueta', which had arrived from Bonaire carrying a substantial cargo of 7,297 tons of salt, was en route to Point Lisas in Trinidad and Tobago.
