Philippine Coast Guard Intercepts 55 Container Vans of Illegally Cut Logs

Jul 01, 2012 17:55

In a significant operation, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) successfully intercepted 55 container vans filled with illegally cut logs aboard the cargo vessel 'Lorcon Dumaguete' during a raid at Manila North Harbor. This operation took place while the ship was docked from June 27 to June 29, 2012. The interception was initiated following an intelligence tip-off from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) regarding an unlawful log shipment arriving from Davao via Cebu, specifically at Pier 16. During the joint inspection by the NBI and PCG operatives, a substantial quantity of undocumented forest products was discovered cleverly hidden within the container vans. The seized logs were promptly turned over to the Bureau of Customs and the Anti-Illegal Logging Task Force for appropriate handling and disposition. After completing its business at the harbor, the 'Lorcon Dumaguete' is scheduled to continue its journey back to Davao, with an estimated time of arrival set for July 2.
