Collision at Lauis Ledge: Fastcat M 11 and Ocean United Detained in Talisay City

Oct 19, 2018 21:35

In a significant maritime incident, the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) 7 has suspended the safety certificates of two vessels, the "Fastcat M 11" and the "Ocean United," following a collision that occurred at Lauis Ledge near Talisay City on October 18 at 8:45 p.m. The captains of both vessels, Jerome Davalos of the Fastcat M 11 and Jose Joel Gulfan of the Ocean United, have been placed under preventive suspension as authorities initiate a thorough investigation into the matter. The Fastcat M 11, which was transporting 70 passengers and 12 rolling cargoes bound for Tubigon, Bohol from Cebu City, collided with the cargo ship, which had recently departed from Talisay City and was making its way to Cebu City. In response to the incident, the Coast Guard deployed a rescue vessel with a medical team to the scene to provide necessary assistance. Fortunately, an inspection by the Marine Environment Protection Team confirmed there were no oil spills resulting from the collision. However, four individuals sustained injuries during the incident. They have been identified as Daniel Fuentes (38), Manuel Veloso Jr. (48), Anacleto Dico Jr. (47), and Cary Angelo Bilga (28). Thankfully, all four are in stable condition. As part of the ongoing investigation, officials will assess whether the vessels require drydocking for repairs. During this process, both vessels will remain docked and prohibited from sailing while their safety certificates are under suspension.
