Collision Incident Involves 'Namasis' and 'Macedon' at Kea Port
On the evening of June 28, 2022, the Port Authority of Kea received reports regarding a maritime accident involving the vessel 'Namasis', which was anchored at the breakwater of Korissia port. While preparing to depart for Sitia, Crete, a strong north northeast wind gusting at 5-6 Beaufort resulted in the 'Namasis' inadvertently alliding with the port side of the moored ferry 'Macedon' (IMO: 7205219). Port Authority officials promptly arrived at the accident site and noted that the incident caused significant dents and abrasions extending five to six meters above the waterline on the 'Macedon'. Additionally, the 'Namasis' suffered damage, with the rails on the middle deck appearing crooked. Fortunately, the collision did not lead to any injuries, and no signs of marine pollution were found in the area. Following the incident, the Port Department of Kea, operating under the Central Port Authority of Lavrio, Chalkida, initiated a preliminary investigation, enforcing a ban on both vessels from sailing until they could present a valid seaworthiness certificate and proof of compliance with class maintenance requirements from the relevant classification societies. As a result, the 'Namasis' remained anchored at coordinates 37° 39.61' N 024° 19.05' E before its planned departure to Altsi, with an estimated time of arrival set for June 30. In the meantime, the 'Macedon' set sail from Kea heading towards Lavrio at 8 p.m.
