The general cargo vessel NINA 1 encountered difficulties and ran aground off the coast of Wangerooge in the Frisian Islands, North Sea, early in the morning of August 18, 2023. The incident occurred around 06:30 UTC as the ship was approaching the island. Fortunately, by 07:00 UTC on August 19, the NINA 1 was reported safe and securely berthed at the Port of Wangerooge, as confirmed by AIS tracking data. The precise extent of any damages sustained during the grounding is currently unknown. The vessel was making its way from Thyboron, Denmark, at the time of the incident.
