Coast Guard Conducts Medevac of Crewmember from National Geographic Venture Near Coos Bay
In a notable rescue operation, the U.S. Coast Guard successfully medevaced a 30-year-old crewmember from the cruise ship 'National Geographic Venture' on April 20, 2025. The incident took place approximately 15 miles offshore of Coos Bay, Oregon, as the vessel traveled from Pichilingue to Seattle. At around 6:38 a.m., the Sector Columbia River watchstanders received an urgent distress call from the ship reporting that the crewmember was experiencing severe vomiting and difficulties in breathing. Acting swiftly, the watchstanders consulted with the Coast Guard's duty flight surgeon, who promptly advised the need for a helicopter medevac. By 8 a.m., an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station North Bend reached the vessel, performed the hoist operation, and successfully airlifted the patient to safety. The individual was then transported to Bay Area Hospital in Coos Bay, where he was reported to be in stable condition.
