Nigerian Navy Detains Eight Stowaways Found in Rudder Compartment of 'Natal'

In a significant operation on November 3, 2023, the Nigerian Navy's NNS Beecroft patrol team successfully apprehended eight Nigerian stowaways who attempted to escape the country aboard the vessel 'Natal'. The stowaways were discovered in the rudder compartment of the ship, where they had been hiding. Commander Kolawale Oguntuga of the NNS Beecroft reported that the operation was executed based on credible intelligence. The stowaways included Jerry Benjamin, 22; Ben Tony, 19; Victory Ekemele, 16; and Ike Destiny, 17, all hailing from Delta State. Additional detainees consisted of 25-year-old Ebuka Solomon and 26-year-old Christian Eze from Enugu State, along with 25-year-old James Vincent from Edo State and 27-year-old David Abamiyo from Ondo State. The individuals were formally handed over to the Nigerian Immigration Service at the Naval Base Apapa in Lagos on November 6, 2023.
