Kyokuyo Shipyard Celebrates Award Success for Innovative 'NATORI' Design

Jul 13, 2016 10:02

In a nod to the enchanting aesthetics of mid-20th Century maritime visions, Japan's Kyokuyo Shipyard Corporation is making waves with its cutting-edge ship designs. Their latest creation, the 'NATORI,' recently garnered significant accolades, triumphing at both the 17th Environment Awards and the prestigious Ship of the Year awards held in Japan. Imoto Lines, Ltd., the proud owner of the NATORI, received the esteemed 'Award for Development of Technology that Reduces Environmental Impact for Logistic Operations' at the 17th Logistics Environment Awards, which is organized by the Japan Association for Logistics and Transport (JALoT). Notably, the NATORI stands as the world’s pioneering container carrier featuring Kyokuyo’s unique and globally patented 'SSS-bow (Semi-Spherically-Shaped-bow).' Delivered in December to Imoto Lines, the NATORI also holds the title of Japan’s largest coastal container feeder, boasting an impressive loading capacity of 540 TEU. As this remarkable ship sets sail, it signals a bold new era in eco-conscious maritime operations.

Revolutionary Japanese Container Vessel with Semi-Spherical Bow Launched

Dec 21, 2015 21:07

Imoto Lines, a Japanese domestic container operator, has added a remarkable vessel to its fleet, designed by Kyokuyo Shipyard Corp. The newly delivered ship, named Natori, boasts a unique semi-spherical bow and an integrated bridge, aimed at enhancing operational efficiency. With a capacity of 540 TEUs, Natori measures 136.25 meters in length and has a beam of 21 meters, perfectly tailored for feeder and domestic container services throughout Japan. Kyokuyo Shipyard Corp. reports that the innovative bow design contributes to a significant 5 percent reduction in fuel consumption under average sea conditions, thanks to a 30 percent decrease in wind pressure compared to traditional hull designs. The integrated bridge and accommodation area have been thoughtfully positioned at the forepart of the vessel, ensuring improved visibility for the crew while also enhancing comfort by mitigating noise and vibration from onboard machinery. Additionally, the vessel's design facilitates optimized container loading and includes a high-efficiency propeller, fuel-efficient paint, and a state-of-the-art fuel oil piping system that effectively prevents oil spills during bunkering operations. This groundbreaking design sets a new standard in sustainable maritime solutions while meeting the growing demands of the container shipping industry.
