In the early hours of October 2, 2012, at 00:45 a.m., a maritime incident occurred as the cargo vessel "Nautica" collided with the tanker "Orateca" within the new Northern Lock of the Kiel Canal located in Brunsbüttel. The "Nautica," which was traveling from Szczecin to Oostende, struck the "Orateca" that was en route from Helsingborg to Hamburg, coinciding with the latter's attempt to dock. Following the incident, the lock was temporarily closed to facilitate an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the allision. The "Orateca" resumed its journey at 2 a.m., successfully docking at NHG in Hamburg by 5 a.m. Meanwhile, the "Nautica" continued its voyage shortly after at 2:10 a.m. Authorities are currently conducting an investigation into the matter.
