On August 17, 2019, at 04:30 AM, the oil tanker 'Navigator Capricorn,' while sailing from Bonny to Lagos, fell victim to a pirate attack at coordinates 03°33'N 006°40'E, approximately 56 miles south of Bonny. In a display of swift action, the crew sought refuge in the vessel's citadel and promptly activated a security alarm to signal for help. The Nigerian Navy responded efficiently, sending a team to board the tanker; however, the pirates had already made their escape. Although one crew member was reported missing from the citadel, it was later discovered that he had found a secure hiding spot and was safe. Following the incident, 'Navigator Capricorn' made its way back to Bonny and was confirmed to be stationary by the morning of August 23.
