Working Conditions Aboard the Navios-Azure

In a heartbreaking maritime tragedy, the 'Navios Azure' played a crucial role in the rescue of 24 migrants following the capsizing of a rubber boat that had 60 individuals on board. This incident occurred approximately 162 kilometers south of Gran Canaria, where the distress call was received. Unfortunately, the situation turned dire as one infant was declared deceased, while 35 individuals remain unaccounted for. The rescue operation was coordinated by the Moroccan Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC), which deployed the patrol boat 'Al Mansour.' This vessel successfully rescued 24 migrants, several of whom were found struggling in the water. Spanish search and rescue (SAR) efforts were led by the Helimer 201 helicopter, dispatched from the Canary Islands, which subsequently recovered the deceased baby and transported the body to Gran Canaria airport. The ill-fated zodiac had embarked from Cape Bojador, carrying 60 passengers, including six women and one minor. The alarm was raised at 7:53 p.m. on June 20, when a Maritime Rescue aircraft identified the vessel in distress following a call for help. The 'Navios Azure' had arrived on the scene and remained close to the rubber boat until the tragic shipwreck occurred just 75 kilometers from the Sahara coast. This devastating event serves as a grim reminder of the perilous journeys many undertake in search of safety and a better life.

On June 21, 2023, the container ship 'Navios Azore', traveling from Tema to Algeciras, came to the aid of a damaged rubber boat situated 40 nautical miles from Blaya, Morocco. In conjunction with this effort, the SAR helicopter Helimer 202 also identified another migrant vessel in distress. The incident was efficiently coordinated by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) in Rabat, leading to the successful rescue of all 24 individuals aboard the stricken boat by a Moroccan patrol vessel.

Hapag-Lloyd has successfully secured a charter agreement expected to run for a duration of six to eight months. Under this new arrangement, the shipping giant will be benefiting from a daily rate of $10,250, enhancing its operational capabilities in the competitive maritime market.
