As a result, Hanjin's vessels are unencumbered and may continue their operations without fear of seizure. The judge had previously mandated that the vessels partaking in U.S. waters remain there to avoid complications while under bankruptcy protection. WFS expressed discontent over being barred from pursuing further action against vessels that are not directly owned by Hanjin, with their legal representatives emphasizing that their concerns rested primarily on the extension of bankruptcy protections to the chartered vessels’ owners. According to WFS's lawyers, "World Fuel never objected to the vessels entering ports and unloading." Previously, before the ruling, WFS successfully arrested the vessel Hanjin Montevideo on September 6, seeking a total of $488,749.43, in addition to accrued interest and costs. Similarly, OCM arrested the Hanjin-chartered Seaspan Efficiency on the same day in Savannah, Georgia, claiming damages of at least $837,338.76, alongside prejudgment interests and additional expenses. While the total debt owed by Hanjin to bunker companies remains unclear, with comprehensive creditor information expected next month, Adrian Tolson, Senior Partner at 20|20 Marine Energy, estimates that the bunker industry may face an immediate financial exposure exceeding $100 million based on historical data and Hanjin's fleet size.
