The maritime vessel AHST Neftegaz-55 faced a challenging situation while towing the ill-fated jack-up rig Kolskaya in the Okhotsk Sea. The incident occurred on December 18, 2011, when, at 12:30 PM, the vessel's captain reported a significant water ingress issue within the engine room. This unfortunate development stemmed from water leaking through ventilation cap openings that had been severed by the tow line, alongside infiltration via the propeller hub and the starboard adjustable pitch propeller's shaft. In light of the situation, the starboard engine was rendered inoperative due to water entering the hydraulic tank of the starboard pitch propeller. Consequently, authorities decided to withdraw the vessel from its ongoing Search and Rescue operation, redirecting AHST Neftegaz-55 to Korsakov port on Sakhalin Island, with an estimated arrival time of 07:00 AM on December 20. Fortunately, the crew was able to control the water ingress, ensuring the safety of both the vessel and its personnel.
