Emergency Medivac for Injured Crew Member on New Activity
On the evening of September 19, 2019, the U.S. Coast Guard swiftly responded to a medical emergency aboard the tanker 'New Activity,' which was on a voyage from Corpus Christi to Finnart, approximately 260 miles southeast of Cape Lookout, North Carolina. Coast Guard watchstanders at the 5th District command center received an alert from the 7th District command center regarding a 39-year-old crew member who had suffered injuries due to a fall and required urgent medical evacuation. An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew, alongside an HC-130J Hercules aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, were promptly dispatched. The Hercules aircraft arrived first, providing crucial visual oversight and communication support. The Jayhawk crew then expertly hoisted the injured mariner aboard the helicopter, ensuring a quick and safe evacuation.
