The Norway-flagged crude oil tanker ERVIKEN has encountered significant challenges after Energy Customs prohibited the provision of bunker fuel at the inner anchorage of Ust-Luga port (anch. No 11). This location had served as an offshore bunkering site for tankers calling at the port until the ban was enacted. A representative from the bunker supply firm disclosed to PortNews that the vessel, currently experiencing a fuel shortage, is unable to depart from Ust-Luga, located in the Leningrad region of Russia, en route to Houston, USA. The ERVIKEN docked at Ust-Luga on August 30, 2013, at 02:00 AM (Moscow Time) to load oil products. Upon arrival, the Ship’s Store Declaration indicated that the vessel had 678.6 metric tons of fuel onboard, comprising 507 metric tons of High Sulfur Fuel Oil (HSFO) and 171.6 metric tons of Low Sulfur Fuel Oil (LSFO), along with 108.2 metric tons of Marine Gas Oil (MGO). It is worth noting that the ship’s fuel tank capacity allows for 4,122.9 metric tons of IFO and 213.3 metric tons of MGO, emphasizing the critical nature of the current fuel shortage for its planned voyage.
