Maersk Vessel Aids in Rescue of 18 Crew Members from Sinking Cargo Ship
On the morning of January 11, 2025, the cargo ship 'Dolphin 18' (IMO: 9216341) tragically sank in the South China Sea, approximately 146 nautical miles north of the Riau Islands. The vessel was en route to An Giang, carrying a substantial cargo of 5,300 cubic meters of wood at the time of the incident. Luckily, the crew of the nearby 'Nicolai Maersk', which was traveling from Nansha, swiftly diverted to the site to aid in the emergency. They successfully rescued the 18 crew members, who had found refuge in two life rafts. The rescued individuals were then transported to Tanjung Pelepas aboard the 'Nicolai Maersk' and safely disembarked on January 12, 2025, allowing the vessel to resume its journey towards Singapore.
