Nidarø Runs Aground at Saltstraumen: Successful Rescue Operation
On August 21, 2019, at 7:25 PM, the vessel "Nidarø", with a crew of five onboard, experienced a loss of engine power while navigating through Saltstraumen. As a result, the ship ran aground on the rocks just north of the bridge on the Knaplund side. Fortunately, the vessel was able to regain engine power shortly after the grounding; however, the captain opted to await assistance from the Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue (NSSR) lifeboat "Hermann Horn", which had been alerted to the situation.<br> A Sea King helicopter was also placed on standby as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of the crew. By 8 PM, the NSSR lifeboat successfully managed to refloat the "Nidarø" and guide it into deeper waters of the fjord. After the operation, the vessel docked at the port of Bodø at 9:40 PM. Following thorough inspections, the "Nidarø" set sail again on August 23 at 4 AM, with a destination of Nidar and an estimated arrival time of 3 PM. Cargo Ship Averted Disaster in Stigfjord: Successful Rescue Operation
On January 8, 2017, a precarious situation unfolded when the cargo vessel "Nidarø" began to drift dangerously close to the shore north of Aldra Island, near Mo i Rana. The vessel, with a complement of five crew members, had experienced engine failure while navigating through the Stigfjord in Lurøy municipality at 11 a.m. Bodø Radio quickly relayed the mayday signal, prompting immediate responses from multiple nearby vessels. The car ferry "Lovund" and the trawler "Cetus" (MMSI: 258054000) were among the first responders, braving the harsh weather conditions with southwesterly winds reaching gale force that had caused the ship’s anchor to drag. An emergency rescue mission took a critical turn when a Sea King helicopter also joined the scene. As the situation developed, the lifeboat "Skuld" worked alongside the "Cetus" to maintain the position of the "Nidarø," maintaining a precarious hold just 750 meters offshore. Meanwhile, the tugboat "Nautilus Balder" (IMO: 8406157) was dispatched and arrived at 3 p.m. to provide assistance in towing the vessel to safety. In a fortunate turn of events, the crew of the "Nidarø" was able to restart the engine, allowing them to navigate to the port of Tomma as initially planned. This incident underscores the importance of rapid response and coordination among maritime vessels in emergencies.
