Vessel Grounded on the Maas River Near Roermond
On the evening of January 6, 2025, the cargo vessel 'Nijmegen Max' experienced an unfortunate grounding incident on a breakwater while attempting to depart from the port of Roermond. Positioned precariously, the bow of the vessel remained lodged, while the stern rested within the navigation channel, leading to significant disruptions in ship traffic between Linne and Roermond. The situation was closely monitored by Rijkswaterstaat. Thankfully, by the morning of January 7, the captain managed to refloat the ship, allowing it to return to Roermond. However, due to elevated water levels, parts of the Maas River continued to be closed off for shipping activities. This grounding marks the second incident involving the 'Nijmegen Max' in a short span since it previously allided with the Willems Bridge on the New Maas back on September 11, 2024.
