Kiel Canal Traffic Disrupted Due to Engine Malfunction of 'Nina Bres'

Jan 31, 2016 13:06

On January 31, 2016, at approximately 7 a.m., the cargo vessel 'Nina Bres' encountered a significant engine failure while navigating the Kiel Canal, specifically near the Nobiskrug ferry point at Rendsburg, during its journey from Antwerp to Halmstad. Following the breakdown, the vessel began to drift alarmingly close to the ferry berth, raising concerns of a potential grounding incident. Quick actions by the crew of a nearby ferry provided critical assistance, employing anchor maneuvers to help stabilize the 'Nina Bres'. Unfortunately, the ship's position was such that it obstructed the fairway, causing a complete halt to all traffic in the Schacht-Audorf region. Fortunately, at around 9 a.m., the tug 'NOK 1' arrived on the scene and successfully towed the 'Nina Bres' to a safe passing point. Afterward, the vessel was directed to Kiel, where it docked at the Voith Quay for thorough inspections at 11 a.m. Once deemed seaworthy, the 'Nina Bres' resumed its journey towards Halmstad at 5:30 p.m., with an estimated time of arrival set for February 1 at 1 p.m.

Freighter 'Nina Bres' Successfully Refloated After Grounding Incident

Mar 06, 2013 16:09

On the afternoon of March 6, the freighter 'Nina Bres' was successfully refloated after running aground in Skåne. Throughout the incident, the ship's tanks underwent continuous monitoring for any potential leaks. Once freed, the vessel navigated under its own power to the southern port of Helsingborg for further inspections. Reports indicate that the master's previous medical history may have played a role in the grounding, as the ship failed to alter its course near Rydebäck at Ven, inadvertently heading toward the shoreline between Landskrona and Helsingborg. Nina Bres Grounded Near Rydebäck: Crew Safe, Investigation Underway

Mar 06, 2013 10:09

In a maritime incident on the evening of March 5, 2013, the vessel "Nina Bres" encountered trouble while traveling from Avedore to Karlstad, running aground around 10 p.m. close to Rydebäck, situated between Landskrona and Helsingborg. The ship had a crew of seven onboard, all of whom were unharmed. Following the grounding, the Swedish Coast Guard Air Patrol, KBV 502, was deployed the next morning, March 6, only to find that there was no oil leak observed in the vicinity. Fortunately, there was no pollution risk as the ship did not take on any water. A tugboat from Copenhagen was dispatched to assist in freeing the unladen vessel. Additionally, the environmental protection vessel KBV 032 was sent to the scene, expected to arrive by 10:30 a.m. Preliminary inquiries revealed that the incident was linked to a sudden illness affecting the vessel's captain, which hindered his ability to navigate properly around Ven. Consequently, the captain is currently under investigation for possible negligence, and interviews were conducted during the night.
