Nireas Bulk Carrier Runs Aground on Mississippi River, Prompting Urgent Coast Guard Response
On December 23, 2018, the bulk carrier "Nireas" found itself grounded at Mile 171.5, close to Point Houmas on the Mississippi River. In response to the situation, the U.S. Coast Guard swiftly implemented specific Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) measures from Mile Marker 171.0 to Mile Marker 172.0. These precautions were put in place to safeguard individuals and property given the potential hazards posed by the stranded vessel. Fortunately, the ship was later refloated, leading to the lifting of the VTS restrictions. Following the incident, the "Nireas" resumed its voyage, continuing southward towards Sete, with an expected arrival time set for January 10, 2019.
New Charter Agreement Secured for Up River Delivery
A fresh charter has been successfully arranged for the vessel, set to embark from Up River between April 1 and April 5. The journey will take the vessel through Italy before its scheduled redelivery at Cape Passero. This agreement includes a daily rate of $19,000, managed by CJ.
