Recent testing has revealed that military personnel aboard four ships of the Royal Netherlands Navy have contracted the coronavirus. Notably, two of these vessels were active in the Mediterranean as part of a NATO exercise. On the HNLMS 'Rotterdam', one soldier has been identified as infected, while the HNLMS 'Johan de Witt' reported two positive cases. The affected crew members exhibited mild symptoms and were promptly isolated, subsequently being medevacked to the Netherlands for further care. The remaining crew members are set to return to their home base after making a logistical stop. Additionally, cases were confirmed on two other vessels: the HNLMS 'Van Speijk', where four soldiers tested positive, and the HNLMS 'Karel Doorman', with one positive crew member. All soldiers had previously undergone a period of home quarantine before rejoining their respective ships, and the origins of the infections remain unclear. Contact tracing efforts are underway, and additional isolation measures have been implemented for other crew members to curb the potential spread of the virus. Enhanced preventive strategies have been enacted to ensure the safety and health of all personnel.
