New Research Vessel Delivered to NOAA by Marinette Marine Corp
On Friday, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) proudly accepted the delivery of the 208-foot research vessel, Reuben Lasker, crafted by Marinette Marine Corp. in Marinette, Wisconsin. Designed to enhance the understanding of marine ecosystems, this vessel will play a pivotal role in conducting surveys on fish, marine mammals, and turtles along the U.S. West Coast and in the eastern tropical Pacific Ocean. The Reuben Lasker is the fifth vessel in the Oscar Dyson class for NOAA and comes equipped with cutting-edge technology for fisheries and oceanographic research. This includes advanced navigation systems and acoustic sensors, alongside essential scientific sampling tools. The development of this vessel was made possible through funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The Reuben Lasker is set to be commissioned next year, with its homeport in San Diego, further strengthening NOAA's commitment to marine research and conservation.
