Noorderlicht Vessel Reviews and Specifications

On the evening of September 18, 2016, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the sailing vessel 'Noorderlicht' experienced a grounding incident near Trygghamna, situated northwest of Longyearbyen. The ship had 23 individuals on board at the time of the mishap. In response to the emergency, the Norwegian government-operated vessel 'Polarsyssel' (IMO: 9690949) was dispatched for assistance and successfully extracted the 'Noorderlicht' from its precarious position. Initially, there were plans to tow the 'Noorderlicht' to Longyearbyen, but the crew opted to drop anchor in a stable area within Trygghamna instead. After the salvage operation was completed, the 'Polarsyssel' proceeded on its way to Ny-Ålesund.
