On August 28, 2024, a significant maritime incident occurred on the Paraná River when the bulk carrier 'Obahan C' (IMO: 9748253) collided with the 'Nord Singapore' at kilometer 337.5 near San Nicolás. This unfortunate event was attributed to a communication lapse between the two vessels. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and there was no environmental harm caused by the incident. However, the collision resulted in the destruction of a rescue boat aboard the 'Obahan C'. At the time of the accident, the 'Obahan C' was transporting 30,000 tonnes of soybean meal and was on its way to Tema, moving downstream with a draft measuring approximately 9.30 meters. The 'Nord Singapore', meanwhile, was ballasting from Navegantes to São Lourenço with a draft nearing 7 meters, destined to load 31,000 tons of corn in San Lorenzo before continuing to Malaysia. Following the collision, the 'Nord Singapore' anchored at San Nicolás North Roads at river kilometer 349, while the 'Obahan C' was moored at Ramallo Roads at river kilometer 325, positioned at 33° 28' S and 060° 00' W. In response to the incident, Argentine authorities dispatched the patrol boat 'BP 6239' to assess the damage and ensure the safety of navigation in the area.
