On September 8, 2016, Nordic American Tankers Limited proudly announced the acquisition of its latest Suezmax newbuilding tanker, named Nordic Star. This impressive vessel boasts a capacity of 158,000 deadweight tons and was constructed by Sungdong Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. in South Korea, according to the company's official press release. Nordic Star is set to immediately enter service in the tanker market, enhancing the company's operational fleet. Additionally, Nordic American Tankers has another vessel, the Nordic Space, currently under construction at the same shipyard, with an anticipated delivery date slated for January of the following year.

On August 24, 2023, a significant milestone was celebrated at the naming ceremony of two newly constructed tankers, Nordic Star and Nordic Space. The event was graced by the presence of Ms. Marianne Damhaug, the chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Norwegian Embassy. These impressive vessels are part of Nordic American Tankers Limited (NAT), a company founded by Herbjørn Hansson, a prominent Norwegian businessman, who has served as its chairman since its inception in 1995. With corporate offices located in Bermuda, Oslo, and Sandefjord, Norway, NAT has established a strong foothold in the maritime industry. Notably, Hansson's long-standing relationship with Korean shipbuilding, dating back to the 1980s, has resulted in 24 of the company's 30 tankers being built in South Korea. The naming ceremony was also attended by the vessels’ sponsors, Ms. Marianne Lie and Ms. Siv Helset, reflecting the collaborative spirit in the launch of these two modern tankers.
