On April 6, 2014, a devastating explosion rocked the cargo hold of the vessel 'Northern Guard' off the coast of Mumbai, resulting in the tragic death of a 25-year-old Chinese crew member. The unfortunate incident, believed to have originated from a container, prompted the ship to issue a distress signal received by the Mumbai Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC).
