On December 1, 2019, at approximately 6 p.m., the CROSS Corsen responded to an urgent alert involving a fire outbreak in the engine room of the 'RCC Passion', located 40 nautical miles west of Ushant Island. The vehicle carrier had set sail from Le Havre earlier that day at 1:45 p.m., destined for Fort-de-France with a crew of 19 and a cargo that included 2,195 vehicles. In response to the incident, a six-member evaluation and intervention team (IEE), comprised of four firefighters and additional personnel, was dispatched via a French Navy Cayman helicopter. The emergency tug 'Abeille Bourbon,' stationed at the Bertheaume anchorage due to worsening weather conditions, was also mobilized to assist the beleaguered vessel. The IEE arrived on board the RCC Passion around 10:50 p.m., where the crew had already initiated firefighting measures amid significant smoke in the engine room. Thankfully, no injuries were reported. By 2 a.m. on December 2, the IEE informed maritime authorities that the fire had been extinguished. However, ventilation of the engine room was necessary before any repairs could commence, while the 'Abeille Bourbon' remained on standby. Around 1 a.m. on December 3, the car carrier's engines were restarted, allowing it to proceed towards Brest at a speed of approximately eight knots, escorted by the 'Abeille Bourbon'. The vessel successfully entered the port at 5:10 p.m. and was docked at QR 1 berth of the Damen Shiprepair Yard for engine room cleaning, investigations, and necessary repairs. Following repairs, the RCC Passion resumed its journey to Fort-de-France, departing Brest on December 6 at 10:20 p.m., with an estimated time of arrival set for December 16.
