Accident in Durres: 'Kaptan Hilmi III' and 'NS Explorer' Collision
On October 10, 2022, at approximately 09:45 a.m., a maritime incident occurred at berth No. 1 of the MBM Port in Durres involving the cargo vessel m/v 'Kaptan Hilmi III' (IMO: 8715390). While maneuvering to dock, the 'Kaptan Hilmi III' collided with the stern of the berthed vessel 'NS Explorer'. Fortunately, the impact resulted in minor steel damage to the stern of the 'NS Explorer', which did not compromise its seaworthiness. Following the incident, the 'NS Explorer' was not detained and successfully departed from the port later that afternoon, making its way to Durres Port's anchorage where it is scheduled to remain until the morning of October 11, pending further instructions from its owners. Meanwhile, the 'Kaptan Hilmi III' emerged from the collision without any damage and proceeded to commence its cargo discharging operations.
Libyan Patrol Boat Detains 'NS Explorer' Vessel
On June 29, 2021, the 'NS Explorer', which was traveling from Damietta to Gabes, was intercepted and apprehended by a patrol boat from the Libyan National Army (LNA). The incident occurred at approximately 11 a.m. in the coordinates of 33°09'45"N and 022°10'00"E, roughly 15 nautical miles off the coast of Ras el Hilal. The vessel was taken into custody for allegedly violating the LNA's 'No Sail Zone' regulations. Following its seizure, the 'NS Explorer' was escorted to the Ras el Hilal anchorage, where it docked at 1 p.m. After undergoing necessary administrative procedures, the vessel resumed its journey and was reported to be underway again by July 2, with an estimated time of arrival set for July 4.
Emergency Systems Malfunction Affects NS Explorer in Sousse
On November 4, 2018, the vessel 'NS Explorer' experienced a critical malfunction in its emergency support system while docked in Sousse. As a result of this technical failure, the Port Master revoked the ship's departure clearance until all necessary permanent repairs were fully completed. Following the incident, the ship's crew began immediate repair efforts, ensuring that the vessel remained stationary at the Sousse port through November 5, 2018.
