What Crew Members Say About Nysted-Maersk

On October 13, 2023, the SAR vessel 'Guardamar Polimnia' (IMO: 9541679) demonstrated remarkable bravery and efficiency during a rescue operation near the coast of Almería. The vessel was instrumental in recovering three deceased individuals and safely evacuated 29 others of Maghreb descent from a distressed boat situated approximately 52 miles from Garrucha. The operation began at around 10:15 a.m. when the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) in Cartagena, Murcia, alerted Almería authorities about a boat in distress, providing precise coordinates as well as a satellite phone contact. Despite their efforts, the MRCC in Almería faced difficulties when attempting to reach the vessel. They called upon the nearby 'Nysted Maersk', which was en route from Algeciras to Haifa, to assist in the search.
